The Republic

  of  Kalahari

The stars shine above. The land spans before you. The trees and the sea. Your people are searching for a path, some kind of direction towards something. It is frightening, yet exciting. The world is open before you, and yet it is large and daunting, and you are weak and unprepared. Failure is all but certain, but you will make an attempt just the same. Your people are ready for a new beginning.

Your people are strong, as are you. Your people begin to build and you put everything into helping. You work tirelessly and endlessly. People rally around you, while the voices in power begin to quarrel. Divisions split, and you feel the combined fear of your people rise as a knife is held to their throat by themselves. Disaster seems inevitable…

You speak with logic and calm, and in the final moments of what could have been your end, everything goes quiet. Your people begin to talk, and what divisions are there begin to mend. The danger of reemerging will always be there, and may even be inevitable. But for now, your people can continue to build.

                                                 The Eagle

Unlike many others, you are capable of stepping out and seeing the big picture of things. You can take information given and analyze its value, figuring out what it means for the grand scheme of things. You can use what you know to plan and design. You are a capable leader, and can make decisions based off of what you know.

Faith

Reason

Vision

Your people believe in you, and you speak boldly and proudly. You are their voice, you are their hope, you are their path. Those that seek to hold power by force are silenced with a lack of support, and your people can begin on the path they should have started on in the first place.

Faith

Confidence

Hope

You have a fortitude of soul unmatched by other spirit animals. You believe strongly in your convictions and will not be dissuaded because of hard times or failure. You understand that these concepts are necessary for growth, and you embrace them on your journey to wherever you seek to go. This does not mean you are not close-minded to other ideas, or incapable of change, but when you set your mind to something, you have reasons for it, and have confidence in yourself it is the right path.

You have envisioned what future you will make. The foundations of it are essential. You do not know what is beyond the reach of what your eyes can see. The area around you is comfortable. It is safe. There are some animals that can be hunted. The soil seems somewhat fertile. Yet you are uneasy. At times it feels right. At others it feels wrong. This could be your home. It could be your end.

Your houses are sturdy, your hunters are bringing food and your farms grow at a somewhat inconsistent pace. Your town settles nicely and comfortably as families grow, and foundations spread. Your people are happy. Your life is quiet. They are at peace.

Your people are content, but you know it is not enough. You know it is not the life you were born for. You look at the stars and to the sea and your mind fixates on the wonder of what is out there. You cannot and will not be shacked to a rock when you were meant to walk, meant to run, meant to fly.

You are capable of creation like few others. You can see the pieces of the puzzle as though already assembled, you can analyze the way in which they are supposed to be assembled and configure the puzzle in ways no one else could dream of. You see the world in a special way that breaks the limits put on it by general knowledge. Your adaptability and ability to improvise open doors for you that can bring you to limitless places. People can put their faith in you, and you will deliver for them.

Vision

Growth

Question

Reach

Your town is what you need and want. You are happy where you are. The silence is a song that you could listen to every day. The children laugh, friends and family talk, and the nights are joyous. You had a vision, and maybe this wasn’t exactly it, but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that your people are happy and safe, and you have done that for them.

Vision

Growth

Confidence

Peace

You are amazingly centered within yourself. Thoughtful, confident, and innovative. You are a leader that sees issues and can come up with a constructive and reasonable way to solve them. You are often the center of a family or group of friends, and they all can rely on you for guidance or help. You are a hard worker and take any job you may have seriously. You believe in yourself and your ability to complete a task. You don’t care for the noise of issues and problems, and would prefer solutions and to remain focused.

You seek a land more suited to prosper, and your people believe in you enough to follow. It is a risky journey, but when you find somewhere that feels right, you finally settle. Your new home grows before your eyes as you plant seeds that could grow into generations. But as difficult times start to spread. hesitant and ambitious voices murmur around you. There are an endless amount of future paths, and the number of people who think they should pick the one your people go down grows. You know you understand more, and you know you see the path that leads to prosperity and longevity. But those concepts are long in the future, and for now, fear spreads as all people can see is the storm approaching that you will have to weather. They can’t see beyond it, and think it is up to them to avoid it all together. The murmurs grow.

You stand your ground looking into the storm that comes. You know you are on the right course. There will be hardship. There will be pain. But it is necessary to become what you can become. Your critics rise, and you meet them in force. Their rebellion is short lived because they don’t have the faith of the people like you do. You hold strong, and your betrayers are subdued.

Those who rose against you are stopped, and so you make a system of laws and governance that will better protect it from happening again. You are firm, but not merciless. Those who rose against you pay their debt in actions to help society and to re-nationalize themselves in duty to their nation. You create a structure of honor and order that can stand for generations

Vision

Curiosity

Confidence

Justice

Order

You are always looking for answers, and you want those answers to make sense. You feel strongly about right and wrong, and it’s important to you for things to be right. You look out for others, and you help others whenever you can. Other people see you as someone trustworthy and who can be relied upon. You may rub some people the wrong way, but it’s because you are firm in your own beliefs, and you don’t have a problem sharing them. This doesn’t mean you are not open to other ideas, but more often than not you will still come down on the side of what you believe to be right.

Those who rose against you are stopped, but you understand why it happened. People were afraid, and they had right to be. You seal breaches and bring those who turned against you onto your side. With alliances reaffirmed. You are back on course to becoming the nation that you were born to be.

Vision

Curiosity

Confidence

Humility

Hope

You have the heart of a scientist and a researcher. You have a drive for information and to understand the ultimate question of “why?” You are among the best in your ability to do things, and you understand your skill without the negative trait of overconfidence. You have the drive to seek to discover things, and then the ability to do so. You view the world in a somewhat optimistic way, and people as the same. Most people have the ability to be good, although some don’t live up to that. You make sure that you will though.

You understand why the doubts exist, and you confront them with understanding of those doubts. You connect with them and though these discussions, you bring them around to stand beside you through the storm. It comes, and is rough and fierce. You and your people stand together, as it ravages over you. As it does, your people look to you for leadership and salvation. They need you.

Your people are in danger and you are not going to let them die for your vision. You take the helm and shield your people from the dangers that rain in around them. You will not survive, but perhaps they will. If it can give them a chance at life. You will gladly give yours. You give yourself to the gods will, but they are not done with you yet. The dust settles, and your people know what you have done for them. They follow you as you pick up the pieces together and move towards the future.

The storm ravages your people. The Four Horsemen of death, famine, pestilence and war threaten to bring your people to extinction. You cannot chance that happening, so you bring your people to cover and safety. You lay low, taking care of your people and waiting for the storm to pass. Your people are thankful to you for your care. When it passes, you can begin again. You have to start from scratch, but you are resilient and your people are strong. You begin anew, ready to build back.

Vision

Curiosity

Empathy

Safety

Endurance

Your empathy for others can be overwhelming at times, and you seek to make the world a better place. You see a world that you think needs change, and while you are just one person, you wish you could do more to change it. You make whatever difference you can for yourself. You help your friends and family, and they know you would do anything for them. You aren’t selfish with money, or in many other ways. You feel badly for those you know cannot be helped, but you try not to let it drag you down, while you do what you can for whoever you can.

Vision

Curiosity

Empathy

Sacrifice

Peace

You are a warrior who can overcome anything in your life, and you may have already. You are not selfish, enough though you may have had a tough path. You are resilient, and you have the strength to make it through any ordeal. You haven’t always made the best decisions, but you learn from your mistakes. Your trauma has not left you though, you carry it with you, and you use it as a reminder for yourself to make good decisions going forward.

Setbacks will not end you. Your people are strong. Life changes and they can change with it. You learn from your successes. You learn from your failures. No matter what the result is you move forward again and again. But as most of the people rise to the challenges, there are some who cannot. Unwavering in the ways of old, the progress of society threatens to leave them behind, and they threaten to stifle the progress of society. Their views live in the dark, and their principles lack a caring and understanding for the vision. They are unwavering in their views, and those views will not work with the path your society is heading towards. Their numbers are small however, and the vast majority of people stand with you to extinguish the hateful views.

You hold to your views because you know they are just, and the majority of the people stand with you. The voices of those in the dark quiet over time and their backwards beliefs and vision becomes nothing more than a memory to most. Together with your people you march towards the vision you created. Your society is strong and growing, your path has become a thousand paths and you and your people have the choice to make which path you go down.

Vision

Curiosity

Empathy

Sacrifice

Justice

Faith

You stand for what you believe is right, and you give yourself to everything you do. Your friends and family trust you, because they know you will be there for them in times that matter. You have a unique view of the world, and a strong understanding of others. You have a lot of humility and are willing to accept when you are wrong, but are always seeking to be better. You have withstood much over your life. You give a lot to those you care about, sometimes too much, because you feel it is the right thing to do. Doing the right thing is important for you. You will always do this, to a fault, because nothing is more important to you than those you care about. You are a leader.

Through understanding, you come to a compromise of beliefs that leaves no one behind, but rather fosters a mix of beliefs that strengthens your society. What was once only a dream is now a reality, one that has moved beyond your vision. Your people look to you, but at this point, you’re not much more than a pilot steering a ship you no longer control. That doesn’t matter though because its destination is somewhere far more amazing than you could have ever imagined. The future is limitless.

Curiosity

Empathy

Sacrifice

Compassion

Endurance

You contain the wisdom, empathy, strength and vision of someone who seeks to and can help others. You are a master of many traits because you work endlessly to do so. You have extreme ability, and yet your dedication and work is for the purpose of serving others. You feel deeply for the plights people go through, and you want to lift those you can to a better life. You believe in the best of people, and you try to show that in your actions. Life hasn’t been easy, but you change to meet the challenges and are never truly defeated. You are the strength that other people can find to get past any difficulty. You are a true leader.

In 1340 Aaliyah Bangura started what would eventually become the Nation of Kalahari.

She faced many difficult decisions and challenges in her path, ones that defined who she was as a leader.

What would YOU choose if you were faced with the same choices? Would you be worthy?

Kalahari Info - By Chase Meriden

Nation: Kalahari Population: 55 million  Establishment: 220 AGB Capital: Babacabanga

Religion: No set religion   Government: Republic Leader: President Bahati Musa (Elected in 680)

The central region of Riven was hit hard by the Great Break. Virtually no remnants of Concord survived the Collapse. Many different tribes formed during the Age of Chaos, but it was desperately volatile. Some tried to form alliances and make peace, but the notion of “the strong survive and the compassionate perish” was a common one throughout the entire Two Continents during the Age of Chaos.

In 135 a tribe leader named Bomani Dogo takes control of a wide area across the Greatland. He unites several, though it is out of fear and conquest. He is declared the King of the Greatland, and he reigns for fifteen years, expanding his power to the Red lake. He was brutal, but he held a firm control over his land during a time when control was an uncommon thing. It is named Shiie.

In 140, he passes at the age of 57 due to plague. His son Bomani II takes over, but is not the leader his father was. Opposing small kingdoms take most of Shiie land, and the rest of the kingdom falls shortly afterwards.

In 158 Aaliyah Kalahari establishes an alliance between her tribe and two others. It seems miniscule at the time, but the alliance survives a series of setbacks, including another plague. Realizing the land they are is not suitable for long term settlement. Although many resist, Bangura convinces the tribes to leave KutHule and travel north to the Red Sea. They survive a number of trials on their journey but end up in a place they feel they can start their settlement. They start the town of Babacabanga.

In 167 they send out messengers across the Bank encouraging all people who are in need to come to them. They begin welcoming refugees over the next few years. Babacabanga grows. Bangura succumbs to sickness in 175. While she is able to see the beginning of what she has started, she does not live to see what her nation would become. Before dying, she names her dear friend (many historians believe to have been her lover) Lulu Landisa as Queen.

In 180, Babacabanga is destroyed during the War of Silver Tails.  During this war, Lulu Landisa passes of sickness. Her heir, Tusa, nicknamed Tusa the Brave, leads the fighting, but is killed in 182 in the Battle of Tall Rock. He leaves no heir, and Babacabanga is sacked shortly after.

In 200 Babacabanga is rebuilt.

In 220, Lulu Landisa renames the tribe from Babacabanga to Kalahari.

In 200, a rival kingdom, Boholo invades. It is led by King Boholo, known as the Butcher of the Bank. He is the most feared warrior in the Bank, and has already conquered several kingdoms.  invades Kalahari territory. Kalahari is aided by the Ixidor Kingdom. Together, they fend off Boholo. Sean Ardennian I defeats Nombeko in combat, sealing the victory. It is the first known Ardennian warrior, establishing a long history for them as well. The Ardennians and the Landisa families would be linked together ever since, and the partnership would be the start of an unbreakable alliance between Kalahari and the eventual nation of Sphera.

In 202, Lulu Landisa steps down as Queen, passing it on to her daughter Breesi. She leaves Babacabanga then and is never heard from again. There is an old fable that a witness swears he saw her go to the edge of the forest where she was met by Aaliyah Kalahari, and the two left together.

In 386, led by King Okello Gowan, Kalahari fights with the Alliance against Marcus Lucian’s forces.

In 435, Queen Asabi Okoro has no children. Disputes begin to arise over who will take the throne, and the threat of war looms after her death. She makes a declaration to hold elections and effectively change the government to a Republic. The people rejoice at this, but a cousin Sefu Okoro, who had the greatest chance at the throne takes issue. In the 11th hour of potential elections, he mounts an insurrection to try to take the throne from Asabi. The insurrection is successful. Sefu takes the throne and becomes the Deadly King. Okoro is never seen again. She is assumed executed, but to this day it is unknown for sure.

The people rise against Okoro in 438 and the insurrection is quashed. There are harsh penalties that are censured by the Spheran government, Kalahari’s most steadfast allies.

A second insurrection is mounted in 445, led by Tahir Falade. A charismatic leader, Falade is able to rally the people to support the insurrection, and the Fight For Everything happens on June 5th. The people of Bacacabanga storm the palace, waging battle against the military. They lose many, but overtake the palace. Both Okoro and Falade are killed during the battle. Falade will go on to be remembered as the Liberator of Kalahari.

In 440, Kalahari establishes the Republic of Kalahari. Elections are held, and Oni Lobo is elected the first president of Kalahari.

In 465, Kalahari joins the War of Violets to aid ally Sphera against Rhone. They win a decisive battle that helps to end the war.
